Welcome to ISOP
Join a united group of clinicians, office administrators, students, clinics, and manufacturers.
The foundation of O&P
Together, as a team, we can influence and shape the Orthotic and Prosthetic field through collective action, the sharing of knowledge, and increased patient care. We ask that you join forces to help us accomplish the goals we have set out to do by becoming a member of the Illinois Society of Orthotists and Prosthetists.
Letter from the Board
As business owners, practitioners, administrators, students, and manufacturers, you know the challenges the O&P profession continues to face. ISOP was the vehicle to passage of the OPP License and Insurance Parity Acts, both of which help ensure quality patient care and insurance fairness for our patients. ISOP has also fended off legislation that was not in the best interest of patients or the profession. In today's changing health care environment, even more proactive action is needed.
Every legislative session, decisions are made in Springfield that shape how we are reimbursed, what we are required to do, and whether our scope of practice is protected. Some of these changes help our patients and our profession. Others could quietly work against us. The difference often comes down to whether someone is paying attention and whether our profession has a seat at the table when it matters. Without an organized voice, favorable measures can stall and harmful ones can slip through before anyone in O&P has a chance to respond.
Along with Brian Duffy, our lobbyist, ISOP monitors Illinois regulation of Managed Care Organizations (MCOs), DME, OT/PT and Athletic Trainers, and HFS operations. ISOP also holds a seat on AOPA's State Representative committee, which shares information from CMS, DOD, and the VA with states.
Our current goal is to move from defense to offense. Illinois has taken real steps toward insurance fairness for O&P patients, but important gaps remain, including coverage for those who rely on Medicaid. ISOP's next priority is to close those gaps so that no patient is denied the ability to move and stay active because of how they are insured. We can only carry that fight with your support.
With only around 500 licensed O&P clinicians statewide, every member strengthens our voice. We, the Board of ISOP, are seeking your support. It's been a difficult ride for O&P businesses, so please help spread the word to your staff. Call it "ride sharing." You are in the best position to encourage support for ISOP.
Thank you,
